County Fair 01

It is so unlike me to openly compete but I’m doing it. I guess one could say that since I’m entering several photographs into this years county fair. I don’t care if they win, but for this area, it is a great place to get exposure. Everyone for miles around to include surrounding counties will come to the fair and take a look. If I get a positive response, I’ll consider other avenues of exposure. I have 12 to 13 pictures I’m going to submit. Half will be of local interest, a quarter will be category topics and a quarter will be those that speak to me. So for the next few days I will post a few of them here. Let me know if you like what you see.
Today's choice is my favorite barn picture and I'm submitting in a 16x14 size print. It is the biggest print I've made. You can't really see the detail here but this large picture has clarity all over it as well as color.

I can see why the barn photo won... I love it, too!
I bet it's even more vivid and striking in the larger format.
Do you do digital or film now? I forget.
I'm glad you are entering your work. I haven't done much lately. I have a ton of rolls still needing to get developed...another pay check...lol.

Glad you like it. It was an early spring morning with mist and I used a tripod.

I work with digital now. Film and paper are wonderful but costly and time consuming. The digital equipment is really improving and it will take a lot of the technical learning requirements away from the art. I like that idea because it means brains will be needed to create really interesting photos and snap shooters will get really nice photos easily. Everyone wins!

I know getting film processed is costly. Have you thought about just having the film developed and hae them make a contact sheet for you? You may find a local school with darkroom classes that would help cut the cost by letting you do it yourself and you would then have control over the film processing.

Probably the best and cheapest way to go about this is process the film and scan the negatives yourself. That way you can play with some simple digital tools and then have some idea of how your vision should come out on paper.
